Enjoy seeing close-up the rugged coastline and harbours, inlets, islands, sea arches, tunnels AND marine wildlife.  We have unpolluted waters, warmed by the Gulf Stream, pristine topography, colourful and spectacular scenery. 

Baltimore is known as the place to see these wonderful animals.  Depending on the time of year, there are sightings of basking sharks, minke whales, humpback whales, fin whales, dolphins, harbour porpoises, rissos, sunfish (mola mola), the occasional orca (killer whale) and leatherback turtle plus of course plenty of seals and sea birds. 

Subject to weather and minimum numbers, this 3.5 hr excursion is with Aquaventures on the hardboat "Wave Chieftain" (free hot drinks on board, fully licensed by the Department of Marine and there's a toilet on board) with indoor and outdoor seating.

The snorkelling tour takes place either in a nearby nature reserve called "Lough Hyne" or similar beach / cove location with easy access to shallow water or a boat trip to a nearby island or rocky shore. The choice depends on other reservations, weather conditions and available spaces on a given day.

Interact where safe and possible with marine animals and flora and fauna. Sea life at shallow depths that can be enjoyed by snorkellers include sea weeds and kelp, anemones, shellfish, crustaceans and fish such as blennies, dogfish, starfish, squid, pollack, sand eels, pipefish, scorpion fish and different varieties of wrasse.

Prerequisites: swimming ability and general good health, minimum age 6.  All equipment rental and your personal instructor/guide is included.

These trips on the Wave Chieftain depart from Baltimore's harbour and are an opportunity to see the beautiful sea and landscapes of rugged cliffs and islands in Roaringwater Bay or the Fastnet Lighthouse, castle ruins and offshore islands such as the Stags or Kedges. 

Subject of course to weather and minimum numbers the 3 hour trip offers some great sunsets with iconic backdrops during the months of May to September.  Departure times vary depending on the hour of sunset.

Baltimore has on its doorstep beautiful looped walks but also hill walking, islands, woodland (Knockomagh Hill) near Lough Hyne, road walks and the beautiful Beacon for all levels of strollers, hillwalkers or joggers.  The views are spectacular with the Atlantic Ocean, mountains, river Ilen, lake, woods and quiet country lanes with little or no traffic (Walking Festival in October).

Alternatively you can rent a bike, which gets delivered to The Stone House B&B and there are maps for your use.  Some routes are marked, others are "go as  you please" with different distances to choose from.  We provide you with high-viz vests.
